MEDICC Calendar

June 14-August 8 

MEDICC participants in Cuba for the Health Sciences Elective:  Cuba's Public Health System. Students come from schools such as University of California at Berkeley School of Public Health, Harvard School for Public Health, Columbia School of Public Health, University of Illinois School of Public Health, and the University of Alabama School of Public Health.

June 17 - 19 

First MEDICC Workshop in Cuba for deans and faculty from the Cuban medical and public health schools hosting MEDICC students.  Participants also include Dr. José Baudilio Jardines, co-chair of MEDICC's Academic Council and Vice Minister of Public Health for Medical Education and Research.

July 4 - 31 

Thirty first-year medical students in Cuba for the Summer Elective-taking them to western Pinar del Río Province and to Havana.

MEDICC´s pilot elective on Reproductive Health....we´re looking forward to including this as a full elective next summer, open to medical, public health and nursing students.  We'll keep you posted!

August 8 - 12 

104th Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly of the National Medical Association (NMA) in Las Vegas.  At the invitation of NMA President Dr. Gary Dennis, and jointly sponsored by MEDICC, two Cuban physicians will present papers at the Convention:  Dr. Miguel Galindo, Director of Cuba's National Immunization Program and Dr. Julio Medina, Director of the Treatment Facility for the Children of Chernobyl.  The NMA has also graciously invited MEDICC Director Diana García to attend.

September 19 - 24 

The 13th Latin American Congress of Surgery  and the 6th Cuban Congress of Surgery in Havana.  MEDICC is sponsoring a special program for US physicians wishing to attend the event, in cooperation with the Cuban Society of Surgery (see Medical Meetings on the website).

September 26 - 29 

MEDICC's Academic Council and Executive Committee in joint session at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York.  End of this article
