MEDICC Review Online’s Open Access Premiere at Annual APHA Meeting, San Diego

With its fall 2008 issue, MEDICC Review premieres its Open Access online edition, presented on Monday, October 27th at the American Public Health Association’s Annual Meeting at the San Diego Convention Center (4:30pm, Booth 1404, Publishers Row, Expo Exhibit Hall). Editor-in-Chief Dr C. William Keck notes: “This is a very special moment for the journal, since we are able to make it freely available online for the first time to all our readers.”  Until now, the online edition was free only to those in developing countries. Readers in some 50 countries already log in to the quarterly MEDICC Review, according to Kathleen Vickery, Managing Editor.

This fall issue of the peer-reviewed journal of Cuban health and medicine - Teaching for Health Equity: Changing Paradigms of Medical Education - highlights the experiences of innovative medical schools in Cuba, South Africa, Venezuela, Canada, the Philippines and Australia.

The APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition is the oldest and largest gathering of public health professionals in the world, attracting more than 13,000 national and international physicians, administrators, nurses, educators, researchers, epidemiologists, and related health specialists. This year’s annual meeting is dedicated to the them Public Health Without Borders.

MEDICC Review will also present its Open Access online edition at the annual meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), October 31-November 5 in San Antonio, Texas.
